100 affordable apartments coming to Shannon Park

One hundred new affordable apartments are coming to Shannon Park in Dartmouth.

The province says they are part of a larger housing plan announced by Ottawa and Nova Scotia in December, originally planned for Old Beaver Bank Road in Lower Sackville.

However, due to not only construction, parking and storage issues, but also millions in unexpected development costs reduced the number of units to 22, which are now being built on Old Beaver Bank Road to be ready by spring of 2027.

A proposal was submitted to Build Canada Homes to include the 100 apartments as part of a larger community development plan for 930 homes in Shannon Park.

Nova Scotia is one of the fist provinces to reach an agreement for $120 million in federal funding.

The government has committed to $251 million to build 515 new public housing units across the province, with 150 in HRM.

Sit work is underway.
