There are now 85 new transitional housing units in HRM for those experiencing homelessness.
The province says one shelter village is off Bancroft Lane in Burnside with 45 units to be occupied by one person, while the other is near Thomas Raddal Drive in Halifax, with 40 units.
“Shelter villages offer a safe place to call home for Nova Scotians who are navigating some of life’s most difficult challenges,” said Scott Armstrong, Minister of Opportunities and Social Development. “They are a steppingstone toward stability, opportunity and belonging.”
Each includes a bed, desk and storage space with access to a shared building with washrooms and showers, with laundry and a full kitchen is coming soon.
Both opened last week as residents continue to fill the spaces.
There are now six shelter villages across the province.
There are nine new supportive and transitional housing options, including these shelter villages that have opened in HRM since June 2024.
