Robie Street partially closed after car crashes into building

Part of Robie Street is closed after a car crashed into a building.

A spokesperson from the Halifax Fire Department said they got the call around 7:40 p.m.

They said a car hit a business at the corner of Robie Street and Demone Street, about a block from the intersection of Robie Street and Young Street.

Multiple people were taken to hospital with injuries. It’s unclear exactly how many people and how badly they were hurt.

In this type of case, firefighters will send their collapse team to assess the damage to the building, but the spokesperson said there were only “a few loose bricks” and the building was in no danger of collapse.

The car appears to be a total write-off. There was no fire, they said.

Police and fire crews are still on scene. Firefighters are knocking down a few loose bricks so they do not fall and hurt anyone nearby.

Robie Street is closed between Young Street and Almon Street.
