Mooseheads become first 16 Seed to win QMJHL playoff series

The Halifax Mooseheads pulled off a historic upset in Drummondville, becoming the first No. 16 seed in QMJHL history to win a playoff series.

Halifax blanked the Voltigeurs 2-0 in Game 7 of their first-round matchup, securing a 4-3 series victory and punching their ticket to the second round.

It’s a rare result in the QMJHL’s long history, where higher-seeded teams traditionally dominate early playoff rounds. No team seeded last in the 16-team bracket had ever made it through to Round 2 — until now.

The Game 7 shutout capped a hard-fought series that saw Halifax recover from a 3-2 series deficit.

With the win, the Mooseheads advance to face the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the next round.
