Police investigate sexual assault on Halifax trail

A 33-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault after an incident on a walking trail in the city.

Halifax Regional Police were called to Belchers Marsh Park just before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

They were told a stranger came up to a woman who was walking on the trail and that he touched her in a sexual manner.

“As part of our victim-centred, trauma-informed approach to sexualized violence, we work closely with victims and ensure their privacy is upheld and well-being is fully considered,” police say in a news release. “We encourage anyone who has been sexually assaulted or harassed to reach out to police.”

Officers arrived on the scene and arrested the man not far from the park.

He’s scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.
