Middle Sackville home destroyed in early morning fire

A housefire has totally destroyed a home in Middle Sackville.

At about 3:40 a.m., they got a call about a fire on McCabe Lake Drive, according to a social media post from the Halifax Professional Fire Fighters union. They are also known as local branch 268 of the International Association of Fire Fighters.

Eight minutes later, crews from Station 10 in Middle Sackville arrived and found the home totally engulfed, they said.

Acting district 4 fire chief Ron Powell says 3 people were inside at the time, but they escaped without any injuries before firefighters arrived. However, Powell said five people in total live in the home.

There are no fire hydrants in the area, so several stations had to bring water tankers this morning, Rowell said.

Some parts of the fire are still smoldering where the building collapsed, and a few crews are digging through the debris to put it out.

Crews are investigating to determine what caused the fire.
