Speed limit changing on some Timberlea streets

Watch your speed in Timberlea.

The speed limit will be going down from 50 km/h to 40 km/h on Governors Lake Drive and other neighbourhood streets.

According to a Halifax Regional Municipality release, the reduction is being implemented following provincial approval based on data and a roadway assessment.

It says studies show that lowering the speed from 50km/h to 40km/h increases the pedestrian survival rate by 40 per cent.

The HRM says this is one of many road safety initiatives “to move toward zero fatalities and injuries related to any mode of transportation.”

The following streets will be impacted:

  • Governors Lake Drive
  • Lakehigh Crescent
  • Lambert Lane
  • Kendall Court
  • North Green Road
  • Mathers Court
  • Myra Road

City crews will start working on the speed limit change during the week of May 20th.
