Flight to London makes emergency landing in Halifax

Some airplane passengers on their way to London got a surprise visit to Nova Scota when their flight had to make an emergency landing.

United flight 920 was on its way from Chicago to London when it requested an emergency landing because of a mechanical issue around 12:50 a.m. Sunday, according to an emailed statement from the Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

The plane landed at about 1:07 a.m., the airport says. The passengers got off the plane and United Airlines arranged to have another flight arrive and take the passengers to London on Sunday morning.

The new plane has arrived, and passengers are set to arrive in London Sunday night.

Our newsroom has reached out to United Airlines for more details on what exactly went wrong with the plane.
