HRM Wants Volunteers for New African Descent Advisory Committee

HRM is looking for 15 adult and youth volunteers for the new African Descent Advisory Committee.

The Committee will advise Regional Council on the impact that municipal policies, programs and services have on those who are of African Descent

Their objectives will include increasing awareness and eliminating barriers for people who are of African Descent.

Of the 15 volunteers, there will be two members of Council, one who will be a member of the Executive Standing Committee, seven will represent a minimum of five African Nova Scotian Communities in the HRM. One will represent African Descent in Halifax and one will represent Dartmouth, as well as two youth and two recent immigrants.

Members will include those from Communities such as Descendants of Africville, North Preston, East Preston, Lake Loon/Cherrybrook, Beechville, Upper Hammonds Plains, Lucasville, Sackville (Cobequid Road and Maroon Hill)

Applications for volunteers are available online serve@halifax.ca, and will be accepted until Tuesday, January 31 until 11:59pm.
