3-car garage destroyed by fire in Hammonds Plains

A fire in Hammonds Plains has destroyed a three-car garage.

At about 2:40 p.m. on Monday, firefighters got a call about a smoke near Pockwock Road and Wildberry Lane.

On the way, they realized there was a working fire and upgraded the call to a second alarm, bringing in more resources.

District 3 Chief Steve Bussey said it’s unclear if there were cars inside the garage, but there were two outside. Both caught fire. The nearest house was about 100 feet away, he said, and it was untouched by the blaze.

The fire is currently under control.

There was a different fire early in the morning Monday in Tantallon.

Although wildfire season has begun, Bussey says there was a good amount of rain over the weekend, so they aren’t too worried about the woods catching fire.
