30 Years Ago This Week Halifax Hosted The G7 Summit

Hard to believe, but it was thirty years ago this week, June 15–17, 1995, Halifax hosted the G7 Summit.

The city was buzzing with the 21st G7 with World Leaders in town as then Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien hosted.

We got caught up in the US President Bill Clinton motorcade on the corner of Hollis and Morris downtown, as he was staying at the Westin.

I recall Clinton going jogging around the city and having to have the Secret Security Agents run with him.

Our son Drake was just ten days old then, he just turned 30 last week. My wife took this pic of us in the Public Gardens that had this G7 flower display.

CNN was here covering the event with many celebrity sightings of Wolf Blitzer!

Do you have any memories from that week?

I had a Bud the Spud G7 t-shirt with the leaders on the front grabbing some fries on Spring Garden Road.

It seems like yesterday.

The 51st 2025 G7 starts this weekend in Kananaskis, Alberta.
