New EV charging stations coming to HRM this summer

A lot of drivers are switching over to electric vehicles. However, some are concerned over their battery dying before finding a charging station.

To help, and encourage the switch, HRM is installing eighteen new charging stations. They will mostly be at gas stations and some at places of business.

Eight are due this summer, with another ten more coming over the next year including six by March 2024 and the final four by next June.

Cost and Type

The charging stations will have 127 KW fast chargers. These will cost $0.75 per minute/$45 per hour.

For longer stays, there will be 7.2 KW Level 2 chargers. These will cost 0.03$ per minute/$1.80 per hour.

The recommended fees for fast charging were determined based on stakeholder consultation and the average rate of fast chargers in Nova Scotia.

There are currently about 500 electric vehicles on the road in Nova Scotia. The province has a goal to make 30% of new vehicle sales be those of net-zero emissions by 2030.
