Drivers stuck in weekend traffic for hours in Halifax

Traffic jams frustrated many on an already jam-packed weekend in Halifax.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic was reported with the combination of a planned closure of the MacKay Bridge and scheduled events including the Parade of Lights downtown.

The Halifax Regional Municipality warned residents last week that the MacKay would be shut down for two weekends in a row due to critical maintenance.

That meant long lineups for the Macdonald Bridge or opting to take public transit.

People were stuck in traffic for hours on one of the busiest weekends before the holiday season.

The Mackay Bridge has since reopened but is also scheduled to be closed for the coming weekend.
