3 people escape tent fire in Halifax

No one was injured in a tent fire in downtown Halifax.

Multiple reports indicate 3 people escaped from a fire at the homeless encampment in Grand Parade Saturday morning.

Site volunteers and firefighters extinguished the flames, but the tent and contents were badly damaged.

On Sunday, Halifax Fire News posted on X, formerly Twitter, that so far in December there have been 3 tent or hut fires in the HRM.

It says Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency has not released the official causes.

However, in its post, Halifax Fire News also notes the sites generally have open burning, propane appliances, and open sources of ignition – which are a risk.
