Construction company ordered to remove barriers from Dartmouth Cove amid outrage

A local construction company is under a tight deadline after creating community outrage at Dartmouth Cove.

Atlantic Road Construction are blocking a popular walking path with concrete blocks, put there Wednesday at the end of Old Ferry Rd.

Councillor Sam Austin says on social media, HRM staff spent a good chunk of Wednesday afternoon on site coordinating with Build Nova Scotia on how to proceed.

According to letters from HRM and Build Nova Scotia, they were illegally placed, and demand that Atlantic Road Construction remove them by 12 p.m., Friday, or it may result in further legal action.

HRM goes on to say that if Atlantic Road Construction does not remove the barriers in time, they will be removed at their expense.

The construction company must confirm they received the letter by 1 p.m., Thursday.

Build Nova Scotia, also demands immediate removal of all barriers including fencing and concrete blocks, in their letter.

“If these obstructions are not removed by noon on Friday, we will undertake their removal at your expense.”

Atlantic Road Construction and Paving had applied to infill Dartmouth Cove, but needed federal approval.

Transport Canada had given the ok, before rescinding it in the spring.
