After nearly three full weeks of strike action, Halifax library workers may soon be back on the job.
Halifax Public Libraries says they have reached a tentative agreement with NSUPE Local 14, and members will vote on the deal as soon as possible.
Management says in a statement, if the agreement is accepted, members will return to work as early as next week with branches resuming regular hours by September 19.
“We are incredibly thankful for the public support received. We look forward to returning to work and continuing to provide the services our communities depend on,” says Christina Covert, President of Local 14.
“We look forward to welcoming library staff back to work and resuming services to the public” says Cathy Maddigan, Director, Human Resources.
Wages has been the key sticking point.
Workers walked off the job August 26.
