The Halifax Regional Municipality is asking residents to help shape new watershed plans for the Dartmouth Lakes and Nine Mile River areas.
The municipality said public engagement has begun and will continue through early October.
Many residents have strong connections to local lakes, rivers and coastlines, and their lived experiences will help shape the plans, according to the release.
Residents are encouraged to complete online surveys and take part in other engagement opportunities.
Feedback gathered through the process will help inform watershed‑specific plans now under development.
Regional council approved the Municipal Watershed Management Framework in 2024.
According to the release, the framework brings together residents, Indigenous partners and other stakeholders to support healthy, resilient watersheds.
The municipality said managing watersheds as connected systems can improve water quality, support ecosystems and strengthen climate resilience.
They add that watershed planning also helps identify environmental challenges early, protect natural infrastructure and support long‑term community sustainability.
The work supports HalifACT, the municipality’s climate action strategy.
Residents can learn more about watershed planning, complete a survey and find upcoming engagement opportunities online.
