Nova Scotia Power launches energy fund to help with power bills

Nova Scotia power is providing some financial relief for those with outstanding electricity bills.

They’ve announced the Community Energy Fund, $500,000 that will match up to $300 of relief from local community organizations, per eligible customer account.

“We’ve worked directly with community organizations that work closely with the people and families this program was created to support,” said Jennifer Parker, Vice President of Communications and External Engagement at Nova Scotia Power. “By partnering with trusted community organizations, we’re helping ensure support reaches those who need it most while making the greatest possible impact across Nova Scotia.”

The fund will be released in two installments, with $250,000 being made available on Sept. 8, and the other $250,000 opening up on November 2, 2026.

Eligibility requirements include being a Nova Scotia Power customer, having an outstanding electricity bill and meeting the eligibility requirements established by a participating organization.

Currently, participating locations include;

  • Canning Interchurch Council
  • Canning Lions Club
  • Chebucto Connections
  • Truro Housing Outreach Society
  • Welcome Housing & Support Services (Halifax)
  • YMCA of Cumberland – Community Development

Nova Scotia Power says to refer to their website for the most current list of partner organizations, as program availability and partner allocations are finalized on an ongoing basis.
