The province is investing more than $30 million to help vulnerable Nova Scotian’s cover home heating costs this winter.
Applications for the annual Heating Assistance Rebate Program open Thursday, Oct. 1, providing families and individuals with up to $400 to help offset rising heating expenses.
Eligible types of heating include oil, electric, natural gas, wood, coal, and other heating sources.
According to the government, families earning a combined net income of up to $45,000 and single-person households earning a net income up to $30,000 are eligible for the rebate whether they rent or own, provided they directly pay for home heat. They add that recipients of the Guaranteed Income Supplement or income assistance are also eligible.
The province says seniors who opted in to the Heating Assistance Rebate Program as part of the Property Tax Rebate for Seniors program will be notified soon if they have been automatically approved for the heating rebate.
Residents have until March 31, 2027 to submit an application online.
