Risk advisory out for Penhorn Beach over possible blue-green algae bloom

A risk advisory is out for a beach in Dartmouth due to a possible blue-green algae bloom.

The municipality says swimmers should avoid Penhorn Beach until further notice.

Some types of blue-green algae produce toxins during blooms, which may be released into the water, posing a risk to people and pets.

You should also avoid drinking water from this lake and eating any fish from there.

If you do come into contact you may experience a skin rash, sore throat, red eyes, swollen lips, fever, and nausea.
