Meagher Park Secured By HRM After Residents Leave

A park containing a homeless encampment in our city has been secured by HRM staff.

Those staying in Meagher Park were given notice to leave last month, but the city says they’ve taken a measured approach to reduce trauma and safety risks, and support everyone involved.

Once confirmation was given that the park no longer contained residents, staff and Halifax Regional Police moved in this morning to place fencing around the park for upcoming remediation work.

The city says they will continue to make arrangements to relocate remaining belongings in the park.

Last week, Fourteen advocacy groups issued a statement asking for a peaceful resolution for the removal of those sleeping at the park.
