Fire at Wag determined to have been intentionally lit by investigators

Halifax’s Waegwoltic Club suffered significant damage to its main building on April 14 due to a fire that was set intentionally, the club announced in an email to its members on Tuesday. The club, which has a long history as a recreation center, said that the basement workshop, deck, and sun porch above it were destroyed, and the rest of the building will require cleaning and rewiring.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the fire. The club is now focused on repairing the damage and preparing for the upcoming season. While the basement will require the most attention, the club believes that only a deep clean is necessary for the upper floors, kitchen, and dining room, which fared better than the other areas.

Despite the setback, the Waegwoltic Club plans to have “another amazing summer” and is known for its tennis courts, swimming pools, and sailing programs. The club was founded in 1908 and has been an important part of the Halifax community for over a century.
