After a long seven weeks, the strike is over for Pete’s Frootique workers in Halifax.
According to their union SEIU Local 2, they reached a three year-agreement Friday, January 5th with Sobeys that sees wage increases, paid sick days and more.
Employees had been on strike since November 18 fighting for more than their minimum wage paychecks.
According to a news release, pay ranges will jump from $15.45 to $19.57 an hour for those not on probation. Most who were on strike will make $15.60 in April with a number making $16.15, $16.75 or more.
Notably, if minimum wage goes up more than the probationary rate, the first three wage levels will see relative increases.
There will be yearly wage increases, as well as lump a sum payment for part-time workers of $100 and full-time workers of $250.
The contract is good until the end of 2026.
