Tensions rise in the lobster fishery after boats cut loose

Nine first nation lobster boats were cut loose from a wharf in the Weymouth area.

Sipekne’katik First Nation Chief Mike Sack believes it was done to intimidate the community.

The boats were ready to take part in the band’s fishery which is regulated by federal law but is not limited to a particular season.

DFO says the department strongly condemned the vandalism.
