A man was shot by a police officer after a standoff in the Fairmount area of Halifax.
Police say they responded to a report of a barricaded person at a home on Arlington Avenue around 7 p.m., Wednesday.
Throughout the night, the man made threats toward officers while crisis negotiators tried to deescalate the situation.
Around 7:10 a.m., Thursday, the man pointed a gun at an officer, who then shot the man in response.
A woman, who the man knows, was also inside the house but she was able to get out an hour or so later.
By 8:30 a.m., the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in police custody, and charges are anticipated.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is also investigating the injury sustained by the man and the officer’s conduct related to that injury. SiRT looks into any serious injuries, deaths, assaults or other important matters involving police that are in the public interest.
Arlington Avenue was shut down but reopened early Thursday afternoon.
