City clears out Cogswell Park tent site in Halifax

The process of clearing out the Cogswell Park tent site continued Wednesday, to help the location become de-designated.

The city says as of 9 a.m., there were still 10 people sheltering there; two and half hours later, only one remained.

It was announced August 20, that Cogswell Park, near Quinpool Road and Windsor Street, had been de-designated due to its proximity to a new adult care facility, according to the city’s policies.

Eleven people were then given written notice that they had to vacate by September 21.

The area is now partially fenced off to help staff and contractors start cleaning up the site, including a plan for remediation.

As of September 19, there were 78 tents, and four trailers were in three remaining designated locations -which remain temporary until other options become available.
