Suspect in custody after early morning armed barricade in Waverley

UPDATE: RCMP indicated at 9:05 a.m. that the person barricaded inside their residence has been taken into custody safely.

Residents in the area are no longer being asked to shelter in place and the emergency alert has been lifted.

An emergency alert was issued around 8:30 a.m. Monday as RCMP responded to a barricaded person with a firearm inside a home on the 2000 block of Waverley Road.

Police closed the area and asked people to stay inside, lock doors and windows, and avoid the scene while they were responding.

The alert urged nearby residents not to leave secure locations and to call 911 with any information.

Updates are being shared through RCMP Nova Scotia’s website and social media channels.
