Some N.S. hospitals to carry out mock emergencies

Mock emergency exercises will be held in hospitals throughout the Halifax, Eastern Shore and West Hants areas.

Nova Scotia Health says they’re essential for ensuring staff are prepared to respond calmly and effectively in the event of a real threat involving a weapon.

During drills, actors in neon yellow vests will simulate threatening scenarios by carrying toy weapons and angrily shouting.

Beginning at Dartmouth General, the exercises are scheduled between November and February in the Central Zone.

Notice will be given to patients in advance and overhead announcements will clearly state when a Code Silver drill is in progress.
