Backlash after white MLA appointed to African Nova Scotian Affairs portfolio

You may have heard our new premier and his cabinet were sworn in on Tuesday.

However, it’s Tim Houston’s decision to give the African Nova Scotian Affairs portfolio to a white man that’s causing an uproar on social media.

71-year-old Pat Dunn was awarded the portfolio and it’s already causing some backlash.

The PC’s have 31 MLA’s but none are black.

Houston could have selected an opposition member or a prominent member of the community to serve in the role but chose not to.

There were a record five black MLA’s elected between the Liberals and NDP.
