Halifax is becoming a hot commodity!
According to Discover Halifax, research has shown we are one of Canada’s top regions to visit in 2025.
The non-profit says there are hundreds of reasons to visit our bustling city on the water, from sports events to festivals and unique accommodations.
Here is their top ten:
1. Hockey Canada Rivalry Series: Team Canada vs. Team USA:
Canada’s National Women’s Team has two stops in Atlantic Canada, with one at the Scotiabank Centre.
2. Unique Halifax accommodations:
There are many different options including eco-glamping, staying above a distillery or along the ocean.
3. Halifax Tides FC:
They are Halifax’s first professional women’s soccer league, kicking off their season in April 2025.
4. Waterfront Cunard District eateries:
This is a fresh addition to the Halifax Waterfront, offering new amenities and public spaces near Bishop’s Landing.
5. On-the-water adventure experiences:
Lots of rivers and lakes mean opportunities for stand-up (SUP) paddleboarding, sea and river kayaking, surfing and jet skiing.
6. Unique rural festivals:
There are several including the SeaLight SkyLight Festival, Halifax County Exhibition, Nova Scotia Forest Festival and Peggy’s Cove Area Festival of the Arts.
7. Live music and entertainment at the Garrison Grounds:
A spacious, outdoor venue that hosts things like the East Coast Kite Festival, The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival, SHINDIG Festival and Magnetic World.
8. Explore Halifax’s military past and present:
You can see Halifax rich history at the Citadel, HMCS Sackville and Fleet Week.
9. 2SLGBTQAI+ offerings:
There are two new 2SLGBTQAI+ bars as well as welcoming and inclusive environment.
10. The Canadian Curling Trials for the 2026 Milan Olympics:
This will determine the four-player women’s and men’s teams who will represent Canada (pending qualifications) for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Italy.
Two significant milestones have been added as two more ‘bonus’ reasons:
- 30th anniversary of the Halifax Comedy Fest
- 45th anniversary of the FIN Atlantic Film Festival
