Ian’s Referee Son “Mic’d Up!”

You may have heard me mention that my son Drake is a Hockey Canada referee on-air from time to time.

This is his 12th season officiating and he had a cool assignment in Pictou, Nova Scotia on the weekend being “Mic’d Up!”

Referee Robinson was auditioning to officiate next April in Sydney, Cape Breton at the Telus Cup for Canada’s National U 18 Championship Tournament.

Here’s what it sounded like:

He’s also an official with the Maritime Hockey League (MHL), Atlantic University Sport (AUS) and other leagues.

His goal is to make the QMJHL, where he is a prospect, and hopefully to the NHL someday!

Drake was called up to the QMJHL on August 18th, 2019 for an exhibition game between the Halifax Mooseheads and Cape Breton Eagles, as the Mooseheads Public Address Announcer, we became the first Father and Son Referee/Announcer combination to work a game in the Q League together.

He began his career at age 14 at our home rink for TASA Minor Hockey in Tantallon and has worked his way up through the officiating ranks.

We are proud of our “zebra” doing one of the toughest jobs in hockey.
