On my recent visit to Ottawa to announce the Play On! street hockey tournament, we had the chance to check out The Northern Lights Sound and Light Show that goes nightly on the front of Parliament Hill.
It was quite a trip back in time covering Canada’s history with a few mentions of Nova Scotia milestones, including the first flight of the Silver Dart in Baddeck on February 23rd, 1909.
The Viola Desmond story was also featured, our Canadian civil and women’s rights activist and businesswoman of Black Nova Scotian descent.
In 1946, she challenged racial segregation at a cinema in New Glasgow, by refusing to leave a whites-only area of the Roseland Theatre.
The show also paid tribute to our War veterans who fought for our country.
This year’s show also celebrated the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, marking her 70th anniversary on the Throne.
The show all wrapped up with the singing of O Canada.
