Former Dartmouth NHL Referee KOHO Now With National Lacrosse League

It was great to recently see former NHL Referee Don Koharski from here in Dartmouth at a Halifax Thunderbirds game.

Don a.k.a “Koho” is now the National Lacrosse League Director of Officials enjoying the new role after his NHL retirement.

He supervises the officials on the turf evaluating their games performance.

Don was a ref for an impressive 2,144 NHL games in 32 seasons working 11 Stanley Cup Finals.

He started out his officiating career at the old Shannon Park rink calling games to make some extra cash as a kid.

He helped our son Drake along the way at his KOHO Hockey Officials Camps in Moncton and Dartmouth.

Who can forget his famous donut incident with NHL Coach Jim Schonfield, they have since become friends after this May 1988 incident:

 

  • Ian Robinson is a lifelong Bluenoser and has been on Nova Scotia radio since 1984. Since 1997, he has been the Public Address Announcer for the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL with over 1,100 games announced, and since 2023, has been the Voice of the Halifax Thunderbirds of the National Lacrosse League in “The Nest.”
