Active house fire prompts large emergency response in Halifax

Fire crews are on the scene of a working house fire on Saskatoon Drive in Halifax’s Kearney Lake area.

Crews say there is a lack of fire hydrants in the area, so they’ve called in a rural response. Teams brought three fire trucks and five tankers to ensure they had a continuous water supply.

When crews arrived they say they found heavy fire extending from the basement all the way up to the roof which required an aggressive and coordinated plan of attack.

Fire professionals say their members responded quickly and began conducting searches and protecting surrounding properties.

Right now, the incident has not been confirmed under control. However, crews say members have make significant progress and that the fire is no longer posing a threat to nearby homes or wooded areas.

Details remain few at this time, and crews are asking people to avoid the area to give emergency teams room to work safely.
