Matt Rife bartends in Halifax with comedy fest in full swing

The Great Outdoor Comedy Festival is in full swing in Halifax with some of the biggest names in comedy performing to sold out crowds on the Garrison Grounds.

Matt Rife took to the stage Thursday and Friday night in a much-anticipated show after postponing last year due to a scheduling conflict.

The superstar was then spotted downtown Halifax and appeared to be bartending at a popular nightclub, Durty Nelly’s, according to a video posted on social media.

The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival is an annual event that hits up cities all over Canada and in recent years in Halifax has showcased comedy heavyweights such as Jerry Seinfeld, Nate Bargatze, Bill Burr and Jeff Arcuri.

Park Ranger Donovan, a spokesperson for the festival, visited the Acadia Newsroom and said his job is the “purveyor of the camper experience,” meaning he makes sure everyone has fun. That includes some contests, singing some songs, and getting everybody ready for the big show.

“How can you not have a good time. Come on, the view is perfect, the comedians are fantastic. I’m cute,” says Donovan.

He has been touring Canada with the festival, and he says the special part about Halifax is the people.

Donovan says he also is a very patriotic person, and while every city has its merits, a show on the old military monument of Citadel Hill will be “pretty fantastic.”

Slated for Saturday and Sunday are Andrew Schulz, Adam Ray as Dr. Phil and Nikki Glaser.
