No threat to public safety after a chaotic day in downtown Halifax when the U.S. Consulate in Purdy’s Wharf received a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of several streets near the waterfront and in Clayton Park.
Police say the threat was received Sunday which prompted a search for the man until officers found his vehicle in Purdy’s Wharf parkade around 8 a.m., Monday.
A propane tank and what was believed to be flammable liquid could be seen inside the vehicle, as well as a suspicious bag found nearby.
Around 8:30 a.m., the suspect was found on Thomas Raddall Drive and taken into custody. However, concerned he may have explosives, roads were closed.
At 10:30 a.m., an emergency alert was issued asking the public to stay away.
All roads in both areas were reopened mid-afternoon.
The man remains in custody.
