Bridgewater Fire grateful for support after fatal fire, donations to be accepted

The Fire Fighters Association of Bridgewater is sending what they call “heartfelt gratitude” to everyone who supported them and the community after a devastating fatal fire.

It was Wednesday when 15 fire departments and more than 100 volunteers fought an apartment fire on King Street that left one person dead and destroyed two buildings.

The tragedy hit the community hard. Mayor David Mitchell says it has left the community grieving, but it was encouraging to see people immediately offer support.

In a post on social media, the fire department says they send a sincere thank you to mutual aids and all emergency responders who worked “tirelessly” alongside them.

“Your professionalism, dedication, and teamwork were invaluable,” says the post.

In addition to that, they recognize local businesses and countless community members who provided food, water and snacks while crews remained on scene. They say the kindness and generosity did not go unnoticed.

“In times of tragedy, our community continues to demonstrate the strength, compassion, and willingness to help one another and that makes us proud to serve here,” says the department.

They thank everyone who played a role.

“We are truly grateful.”

The Salvation Army says they are deeply grateful for the incredible support shown by the community.

They are establishing a Donation Management Centre to support those displaced, for collecting, distributing good and a welcoming presence for community members.

Public Relations officer Wendy Woodlands they needed to establish somewhere to get the word out.

“These ten or 12 families that have lost everything. They need everything from a toothbrush to a meal for the next day or so until they figure out where their lives are going to be,” explains Woodland.
