Plans to construct a new operations centre for Halifax Water in Burnside are going ahead. But in a 66 page report released Thursday the size of the project is going to have to be scaled back.
The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board has approved $70,000,000 for the project on top of 3 million previously approved, however, Halifax Water was asking for $86 million.
The findings of the board described the project as excessive and suggested the size be reduced by approximately 20 percent. Among the recommendations, reduce the square footage of the building from 99 thousand to 87 thousand and cut out an underground rainwater harvesting system.
The new facility in Burnside will replace four other aging structures used by Halifax Water.
The review board has asked for detailed updates every six months on the project and notes it does not expect to see any further applications for funding for the new facility.
