Celebration of life held in Halifax for Devon Marsman

A large crowd gathered in Halifax on Sunday to remember and honour 16-year-old Devon Marsman.

Family, friends, and community members filled the hall with music, prayers, and personal memories, paying tribute to a teen remembered as caring, joyful, and welcoming.

Marsman was last seen in the Spryfield area in February 2022. He was reported missing a few days later. For more than two years, police said there was no evidence of foul play, but in September 2024, the case took a turn when they announced his death was being treated as a homicide.

Five people have since been charged, including a family member who is facing second-degree murder and other charges.

At Sunday’s service, sixteen doves were released—one for each year of Marsman’s life.
