Complaint from N.S. Justice Minister against Liberal leadership candidate dismissed

A professional complaint filed against Lunenburg West MLA Becky Druhan by Nova Scotia Justice Minister Scott Armstrong has been dismissed.

The complaint was filed with the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society and centred on questions Druhan asked in the legislature after leaving the governing Progressive Conservatives and sitting as an Independent.

Druhan is a lawyer and previously served as justice minister and attorney general in Premier Tim Houston’s cabinet.

She says she recently learned of the complaint and was disappointed that a professional complaints process had been used in response to questions she asked as an opposition MLA.

“Opposition isn’t supposed to be comfortable for government,” Druhan said in a statement.

“My job is to hold Tim Houston and his government to account — to ask the hard questions, push when answers aren’t good enough and stand my ground when Nova Scotians deserve answers.”

The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society dismissed the complaint and has not released details about it, citing the confidentiality of its complaints process.

Druhan says the complaint will not change how she approaches her role.

“I won’t be intimidated out of doing that work,” she said.

The complaint followed questions Druhan asked during the spring sitting of the legislature, including questions about possible political interference in police investigations.

Druhan left the Progressive Conservative caucus in October 2025, later joined the Liberals and is now seeking the party leadership.
