The strike at the Mount, has entered its fourth week as talks between the Mount Saint Vincent Faculty Association and the Board of Governors resume.
Vice-President of Administration, Isabelle Nault says bargaining teams met again over the weekend which resulted in agreements of a number of proposals, and they continued to talk, Monday.
Nault says the bargaining teams remain “committed to reaching a fair and equitable agreement.”
This comes after a statement issued Thursday, from the Mount Saint Vincent Faculty Association who said not only have negotiations failed, but very little progress has been made due to what they call ‘delay tactics’ by the Board of Governors (BoG).
This includes not tabling any issues until September 2023, when bargaining began in May 2023.
The Association says they are eager for a fair deal that not only includes equity, diversity and inclusion but also focuses on pay and working conditions, but the Board of Governors will not negotiate anything of ‘substance’.
Since walking off the job, full-time faculty, lab instructors and librarians have been meeting weekly.
Lead negotiator for the Association, Genvieve Boulet says, “We want to get back to work teaching our students and supporting the Mount community through our research and professional and community service work.”
The strike began February 12.
