Country music icon Dolly Parton dies at 80

Dolly Parton, the beloved country music star, actor, philanthropist, theme park owner and activist is dead at age 80.

Her family did not release a cause of death, but did say that she “died peacefully in Nashville”.

The announcement was made by her nephew and head of security Bryan Seaver, on behalf of the Parton family.

The country music icon has previously stated on her Instagram in 2025 that she was facing health issues and had to undergo medical procedures, but didn’t specify what the issues were. Later, she postponed some of her Las Vegas concerts for further medical procedures, something she jokingly called “her 100,000 mile checkup.”

Parton was well known for her many country music hits, including Jolene, Coat of Many Colors, 9 to 5 and more. She was also beloved by many for her many charity works, larger than life personality and humble beginnings.

“A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact,” read her families statement on Instagram.

The post added that fans of Dolly’s are encouraged to pay tribute by on social media by tagging Dolly Parton, or by making donations at Dolly Parton’s imagination library.
