Dartmouth Hockey Coach Passes Away

The local hockey community has been saddened to hear of the loss of Paul Smith.

Paul is better known as “Coach Smitty” to many in the rinks and he is also an uncle to the Halifax Mooseheads Equipment Manager Lucas Smith.

The Mooseheads say: “Anyone involved in sports in our city likely knew Paul or felt the positive influence he had on those around him. He was a fun-loving guy who had a special way of making sports enjoyable for every kid he coached. His enthusiasm, encouragement, and love for the game helped create countless memories and inspired so many young athletes along the way.

Smitty’s passion for sports, his commitment to youth, and the connections he built throughout the community made him a true Dartmouth sports legend. He will be deeply missed, but the impact he had on our community will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Paul’s family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.”

Rest in peace, “Coach Smitty.”
