Drone? Plane? Nope, just a flare

You might have noticed something unusual over Halifax Harbour, and many people online have been talking about it.

On Thursday morning, Fire and emergency crews were dispatched to investigate reports of a drone and a small aircraft that had supposedly crashed near Dartmouth General Hospital and Alderney Landing.

After speaking with crews, Acadia News learned it was neither. According to eyewitnesses, it was actually a flare that had been set off and landed in the water.

Allison Covert shared a photo on social media and wrote, “I’m in an office building by the MacDonald Bridge and the flare started to the left exactly where Alderney Landing would be.”

The incident caused some confusion online, but fire officials want the public to know that “it was just a flare, nothing more. No injuries. We’ve investigated it, a flare was found, and that was it.”
