Feds partner with HRM on flood protection

The federal government is investing $6.4 million alongside HRM to help protect an area of Dartmouth from flooding.

Ottawa will spend $2,560,000 through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund, $2,819,999 will come from HRM and an additional $1,020,001 from Halifax Water.

According to a news release, it will involve getting rid of stormwater infrastructure at Cole Harbour Road and Bissett Run and upgrading the culvert.

A section of Upper Bissett Run will also be exposed and restored as a “natural watercourse” with the addition of a community park at the end of it.

“Making adaption investments now will have major economy-wide benefits later. Every dollar that is invested in adapting and preparing for climate-related disasters can return as much as $13 to $15 in benefits,” reads the release.
