Halifax Mooseheads Connections To The Stanley Cup Finals

The Stanley Cup Finals begin tonight as the Carolina Hurricanes host the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1.

Some local Moose connections for those competing for Lord Stanley’s mug include former Halifax Mooseheads star Nik Ehlers on the Canes squad.

On Vegas, Nik’s former Mooseheads Coach Dom Ducharme, is an assistant coach on the Knights team.

Dom coached here in Halifax between 2011 and 2015 winning the President Cup and Memorial Cup in 2013.

He would often do imitations of me introducing the Mooseheads in his French accent, “Eeeey Moose Country, lets hear it for dee Beast of dee East your ‘alifax Moooooseheads!”

Nik played here for two seasons in Moose Country between 2013 and 2015 before being drafted by the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets.

Also on Vegas, is defenceman Dylan Coughlin who has family roots in St. Peter’s, Cape Breton.

Good luck to all!
