You are asked to be cautious of a phone scam that appears to be spoofing a Halifax Regional Police phone line.
Police say they received several reports on Tuesday of people receiving calls from the department’s non-emergency line 902-490-5020.
The person claims to be from the detachment and tells the victim that their personal information was compromised as part of an international scam.
Police warn that scammers can spoof phone numbers to make it appear as though they’re calling from a trusted source. If you receive a call like this, you are asked to hang up.
Several of the reports were from other parts of Canada.
If you did give any information away, you are asked to call police.
