Power outages affecting more than 7,000 in Halifax

Two separate power outages are leaving more than 7,000 Nova Scotia Power customers in Halifax without electricity this morning.

The first outage began during the early hours and is affecting about 4,700 customers in the Fairmont and Bayers Lake areas. Crews are on site, and the utility says restoration is expected later this morning.

A second outage started around 8 a.m., impacting about 2,400 customers in another part of Halifax. That issue is also under investigation, and work is underway to restore service.

The outages are also affecting some local radio stations, including Hot Country 103.5 and Surge 105, leading to on-air disruptions.

The two outages do not appear to be connected.
