HRCE schools are closed as Halifax remains under snowfall warning

A snowfall warning continues to blanket the Halifax area on Monday morning.

All schools in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education are closed as a result.

Environment Canada predicts another 10-15 cm of snow could fall before tapering off to flurries in the evening.

“The light nature of the snow in combination with colder temperatures may produce localized whiteouts on highways and over-exposed areas today,” according to the weather alert. “Snow is expected to taper to flurries this evening.”

The national weather forecaster recommends postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
