Halifax to begin debate on large tax increase

You might have to come up with some more cash to pay your tax bill.

The city is looking at a 5.9 per cent property tax increase.

The proposed hike will pay for increased service costs and includes a climate action tax.

If it goes through, it would mean $120 extra for homeowners and an increase of approximately $2,500 for businesses.

Council will have to vote on the matter and will start discussing the increase on Tuesday.
